Will a better filter fix my dust problem?
Sometimes, but a thicker filter in a cabinet that leaks air around the frame does very little. We check static pressure and seal the filter path first. If the returns are pulling attic or crawlspace air, that gets fixed before we talk about media.
Do UV lights actually do anything?
A UV lamp aimed at the evaporator coil helps keep biological growth off a surface that stays wet all cooling season, which cuts musty odors. It does not filter dust or pollen. We treat it as one part of the system, alongside filtration and drainage.
Why is my house humid when the AC is on?
Cooling removes moisture only while the coil runs long enough to condense water. Short cycles, an oversized system or high infiltration leave humidity behind. We measure it at the return and often recommend a whole-home dehumidifier tied into the ductwork.
Is a whole-home humidifier better than portable units?
A ducted humidifier treats every room the system serves and refills itself from the water line, so you are not carrying tanks. It needs annual service: a new pad, a look at the solenoid and drain, and a humidistat check before heating season.
What humidity should I hold indoors?
Most homes across the region feel right between roughly 40 and 50 percent relative humidity. Higher and you get sweating windows and musty closets. Lower and you get dry skin, static and shrinking trim. We set equipment to hold that band year round.
I smell gas near the furnace. What should I do?
Leave the building right away, take everyone with you, and call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Do not flip switches or go back in. Once they have cleared the home, call us and we will inspect the heating equipment and venting.
