Top-rated independent heating and cooling across central Arkansas and the Arkansas River Valley

Smart Thermostat Installation

We install smart thermostats on residential heating and cooling systems across Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas, including gas furnaces, heat pumps and dual fuel setups. Homeowners call us when a new thermostat will not hold a schedule, when the wall unit has no common wire, or when a heat pump keeps running backup heat. Give us a call and tell us what equipment you have and which thermostat you bought or want, and we will confirm it works with your system before we set a visit.

HVAC technician at work

What the job involves

We start at the equipment, not the wall. The technician confirms what your system is, checks the existing wiring at the furnace or air handler and at the outdoor unit, and reads how the old thermostat was wired. From there we mount the new thermostat, connect and label the wires, add a common wire or adapter if the smart thermostat needs constant power, then configure the staging and heat pump settings. We test a heating call and a cooling call before we leave, and we walk you through the app.

What we check and install

We check for a C wire, since most older mid-century homes were wired with four conductors and smart thermostats want five. We verify emergency heat and auxiliary heat wiring on heat pumps, check that the thermostat is not sitting on an exterior wall or in direct sun, and confirm the low voltage transformer can carry the load. If your system has two stages, a variable speed blower or a dual fuel changeover, we set those parameters rather than leaving factory defaults.

How we decide it is the right call

A smart thermostat is a good move when your equipment is healthy and you want better control of humidity, schedules and remote access while you are away. It is the wrong move when the real problem is low refrigerant, a failing blower motor or ductwork leaking into a hot attic, because no thermostat fixes airflow. We say so plainly. If we find a repair that matters more, we tell you what it is and let you choose the order of work.

Smart Thermostat Installation — quick answers

Will a smart thermostat work with my heat pump?

Usually yes, but the model matters. Heat pumps need proper reversing valve and auxiliary heat wiring, and dual fuel systems need a changeover setting. Tell us your equipment and we will confirm compatibility before installation day.

What is a C wire and do I need one?

The C wire, or common wire, gives the thermostat constant low voltage power. Most smart thermostats want one. If your wall only has four wires, we can often add a conductor or install an adapter at the air handler.

Can one smart thermostat control a two-zone house?

No. Each zone needs its own thermostat wired to its own zone board or its own system. If your home has two units or a zone panel, we will look at both and quote the work as it actually sits.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the quote form and describe what the system is doing. Warm air, short cycling, water on the floor, a smell, a noise. That detail tells us what parts to load on the truck.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behaviour and the ductwork. You hear what we found in plain language before anything gets replaced or repaired.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the fix

We explain the repair, what it costs and what happens if you wait a season. Nothing gets done without your go-ahead, and we tell you honestly when a repair no longer makes sense.

Why homeowners call us

  • We know humid-climate systemsAcross the region the real enemy is moisture. Systems here run long hours pulling water out of the air, and that shows up as frozen coils, clogged drains and mildew smells. We diagnose for humidity, not just temperature.
  • Mixed gas and heat pump workPlenty of homes we visit run a heat pump with gas backup, and the two have to hand off cleanly. We troubleshoot both sides, including defrost boards, reversing valves, ignitors and heat exchanger concerns.
  • Attic ductwork is our daily breadMid-century homes often have ducts running through attics that hit brutal temperatures. Crushed runs, disconnected boots and leaking joints steal cooling before it reaches the room. We find them instead of blaming the equipment.
  • Repair before replaceA capacitor, a contactor, a blower motor or a clogged drain line fixes a lot of the calls we take. We would rather fix what you have and tell you plainly when the numbers stop working.

  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
