What a duct replacement involves
We start in the attic or crawlspace, map every supply and return, then pull the old flex or failed sheet metal out rather than wrapping it and hoping. New runs get sized to the load of your home, supported so they do not sag into water traps, and sealed at every boot and plenum connection. We reseat registers, rebuild the return where it is starved, and set insulation values suited to an attic that hits punishing temperatures in July. Most single-system homes are done in a day or two.
What we check and install
Before we quote anything we check static pressure, temperature split, register airflow room by room, and the condition of the plenums and the coil cabinet. That tells us whether the ducts are the problem or a symptom. Installed work typically includes new insulated flex or hard pipe, a properly sized trunk, sealed boots at the ceiling and floor, mastic and mesh at joints, and a return path large enough to feed the blower. If the equipment is mismatched to the duct, we say so plainly.
How we decide replacement is the right call
Repair wins when the damage is local, one crushed run or a boot that pulled loose. Replacement wins when the leakage is spread through the whole system, when the runs are original to a mid-century home and the inner liner is shedding, when moisture and humidity have soaked the insulation, or when the design never delivered enough air to the far bedrooms. We show you photos from the attic and explain both options with what each will and will not fix, then you decide.

Will new ducts fix a hot back bedroom?
Often yes, if the cause is a crushed run, a long undersized branch or a weak return. We measure airflow at that register first so we are not selling you ductwork when the real limit is elsewhere.
Can you replace ducts without tearing up ceilings?
In most homes yes. We work from the attic or crawlspace and reuse existing register openings. Occasionally a trunk relocation or a new return needs drywall access, and we tell you before work starts.
Should I replace ducts at the same time as the AC?
It is the cleaner sequence. New equipment sized correctly still struggles on leaky, undersized duct, so if both are due we recommend doing them together and setting the airflow once.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form and describe what the system is doing. Warm air, short cycling, water on the floor, a smell, a noise. That detail tells us what parts to load on the truck.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behaviour and the ductwork. You hear what we found in plain language before anything gets replaced or repaired.
- Step 3
You approve the fix
We explain the repair, what it costs and what happens if you wait a season. Nothing gets done without your go-ahead, and we tell you honestly when a repair no longer makes sense.

Why homeowners call us
- We know humid-climate systemsAcross the region the real enemy is moisture. Systems here run long hours pulling water out of the air, and that shows up as frozen coils, clogged drains and mildew smells. We diagnose for humidity, not just temperature.
- Mixed gas and heat pump workPlenty of homes we visit run a heat pump with gas backup, and the two have to hand off cleanly. We troubleshoot both sides, including defrost boards, reversing valves, ignitors and heat exchanger concerns.
- Attic ductwork is our daily breadMid-century homes often have ducts running through attics that hit brutal temperatures. Crushed runs, disconnected boots and leaking joints steal cooling before it reaches the room. We find them instead of blaming the equipment.
- Repair before replaceA capacitor, a contactor, a blower motor or a clogged drain line fixes a lot of the calls we take. We would rather fix what you have and tell you plainly when the numbers stop working.
