What the installation actually involves
A whole-home humidifier mounts on the supply or return duct near your furnace or air handler, gets a small water supply line, a drain where the design calls for one, and a control that reads humidity instead of temperature. We cut and seal the duct opening, run the water line, wire the control into the heating system, then set the target humidity and watch it run through a full cycle. Most installations are a few hours. We clean up the work area and show you where the pad or filter sits before we leave.
What we check before and during the work
We start with your existing system, because a humidifier only distributes as well as your ducts do. We look at duct sizing and condition, blower operation, static pressure, the age and type of your furnace or heat pump, and where we can safely tap water. We also measure the humidity you have now in a few rooms, not just at the thermostat. If we find leaking ducts in a hot attic or a return that is starving the blower, we say so, because fixing that first changes the result.
How we decide a humidifier is the right call
Dry air complaints do not always mean you need a humidifier. Air leaking in and out of the house, an oversized furnace short cycling, or ducts pulling attic air can all show up as dry, uncomfortable rooms. We take readings and ask what time of year bothers you most. In our region, summer humidity is usually the problem and winter dryness is the one worth treating. If sealing and airflow repairs will do it, we tell you that instead of selling equipment you do not need.

What humidity level should I set it to?
Most homes sit comfortably somewhere in the mid range, around 35 to 45 percent in winter. Go higher and you risk condensation on windows and inside walls. We set a starting point and adjust after you live with it a week.
Does a whole-home humidifier need maintenance?
Yes. The evaporator pad or water panel gets mineral buildup and needs replacing, usually once a heating season, and the water line and drain need a look. We handle that during a heating tune-up or as its own visit.
Will one work with a heat pump?
Often, yes, though heat pumps deliver cooler supply air than a gas furnace, which changes how much moisture the unit can add. We check your specific setup and recommend a type sized to the airflow you have.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form and describe what the system is doing. Warm air, short cycling, water on the floor, a smell, a noise. That detail tells us what parts to load on the truck.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behaviour and the ductwork. You hear what we found in plain language before anything gets replaced or repaired.
- Step 3
You approve the fix
We explain the repair, what it costs and what happens if you wait a season. Nothing gets done without your go-ahead, and we tell you honestly when a repair no longer makes sense.

Why homeowners call us
- We know humid-climate systemsAcross the region the real enemy is moisture. Systems here run long hours pulling water out of the air, and that shows up as frozen coils, clogged drains and mildew smells. We diagnose for humidity, not just temperature.
- Mixed gas and heat pump workPlenty of homes we visit run a heat pump with gas backup, and the two have to hand off cleanly. We troubleshoot both sides, including defrost boards, reversing valves, ignitors and heat exchanger concerns.
- Attic ductwork is our daily breadMid-century homes often have ducts running through attics that hit brutal temperatures. Crushed runs, disconnected boots and leaking joints steal cooling before it reaches the room. We find them instead of blaming the equipment.
- Repair before replaceA capacitor, a contactor, a blower motor or a clogged drain line fixes a lot of the calls we take. We would rather fix what you have and tell you plainly when the numbers stop working.

- Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
