What a central AC installation actually involves
A central AC installation is a day of real work, not a swap. We recover refrigerant from the old system, pull the condenser and indoor coil, and check the line set to see whether it can be reused or needs replacing. New equipment gets set on a level pad, the coil is fitted to your air handler or furnace, and the whole system is evacuated and charged to the manufacturer's spec. Then we test airflow, temperature split and drain flow before we leave. We protect floors and haul the old equipment out with us.
What we check and what we install
Before we quote anything we measure the house: square footage, window exposure, insulation and how the ducts run. In older homes across the region, ducts often sit in an attic that hits 130 degrees, so we check for crushed runs, disconnected boots and missing sealant. Undersized returns are common too. We install the condenser, indoor coil, pad, line set fittings, condensate drain and float switch, filter cabinet, and a thermostat matched to the equipment. Where duct repair matters more than a bigger unit, we say so.
How we decide replacement is the right call
We compare the cost and likelihood of the repair against what is left in the system. A single capacitor or contactor on a ten-year-old unit is worth fixing. A compressor failure, a leaking coil, or a third refrigerant charge in two summers usually is not. Age matters, and so does the refrigerant the system uses, since older types are getting harder and pricier to source. If air conditioning repair still buys you several good seasons, we will do the repair instead.

Can I reuse my existing ductwork with a new central AC system?
Often yes, but we inspect first. Leaks, crushed flex runs and undersized returns will hold back new equipment. We test and seal or repair what needs it so the system delivers the airflow it was designed for.
How long does a central AC installation take?
Most straightforward changeouts run a single day. Jobs involving duct repair, a new line set, electrical changes or a tight attic space can stretch into a second day. We tell you which before we start.
Do I have to replace the indoor coil and furnace too?
The indoor coil, yes. It must match the new outdoor unit to work correctly. The furnace can usually stay if it is sound, though replacing both at once often makes sense on older gas systems.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form and describe what the system is doing. Warm air, short cycling, water on the floor, a smell, a noise. That detail tells us what parts to load on the truck.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behaviour and the ductwork. You hear what we found in plain language before anything gets replaced or repaired.
- Step 3
You approve the fix
We explain the repair, what it costs and what happens if you wait a season. Nothing gets done without your go-ahead, and we tell you honestly when a repair no longer makes sense.

Why homeowners call us
- We know humid-climate systemsAcross the region the real enemy is moisture. Systems here run long hours pulling water out of the air, and that shows up as frozen coils, clogged drains and mildew smells. We diagnose for humidity, not just temperature.
- Mixed gas and heat pump workPlenty of homes we visit run a heat pump with gas backup, and the two have to hand off cleanly. We troubleshoot both sides, including defrost boards, reversing valves, ignitors and heat exchanger concerns.
- Attic ductwork is our daily breadMid-century homes often have ducts running through attics that hit brutal temperatures. Crushed runs, disconnected boots and leaking joints steal cooling before it reaches the room. We find them instead of blaming the equipment.
- Repair before replaceA capacitor, a contactor, a blower motor or a clogged drain line fixes a lot of the calls we take. We would rather fix what you have and tell you plainly when the numbers stop working.

- Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
